Female masking is a form of cross-dressing with a modern twist. Maskers not only wear women's clothes, they put on rubber masks and skin suits. In their outfits, these fetishists more closely resemble living sex dolls or sexualized Japanimation characters than women. Maskers are all driven by different motives. Some like the attention their outfits receive while others wouldn't dream of wearing their costumes in public. Some like the escapism their outfits provide while others enjoy the fantasy of being transformed into an "ideal" woman. Like most transvestites, many female maskers aren't interested in having a sex change, nor are most sexually attracted to other men. Many simply love to pretend that they are living dolls.
The new British documentary, "Secrets Of The Living Dolls," follows several "maskers" from different walks of life. The film explores what motivates these men and how their fetishes have impacted their lives.
