NYC avant-alt trio Liars is back from wherever they go between albums to get weirder, and announcing that their seventh full-length (depending on what you count as a full-length), Mess, will be out March 25 in the U.S. on Mute Records. To commemorate the announcement, the group has made a lead-off track, "Mess On a Mission," listenable online.
[jump]At once both gritty and bouncy, "Mess on a Mission" manages to recall the likes of Can and Kraftwerk without tumbling into self-indulgent caricature of what's become a done-to-death style rehash. It's a little dirty, a little dance-y and pretty much all Liars, while continuing the band's well-known penchant for reinventing itself every time out. You can listen to "Mess on a Mission" below; you can also check out an album trailer below, if you know what that is and/or have figured out how it fits into your personal modus operandi when it comes to consuming music.
Mess is also up for pre-order, and will be available as a CD, double-album or digital download. Word is that it will contain some of the music Liars debuted at their ballyhooed Metropolitan Museum of Art shindig last year — in some form or another.
