Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. everyone. There are several events happening to celebrate the day in the Bay area, including two big marches in Tampa and St. Pete.
Well, we have our two teams playing for the Super Bowl: The league's number one offense in Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will face off against the number one defense in the Seattle Seahawks in New Jersey in 13 days.
[jump]What can we say about last night's Forty Niner-Seattle epic? Oh, it hurts to be a Niner fan today. Best team win? Well, I do think those were the two best teams in the league playing last night, so undoubtedly Seattle should be the favorite going into what will now doubt be referred to as the Pot Bowl (Seattle was initially listed as the favorite, but now Vegas has Denver +2). By the way, we heard all week how it really wasn't Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning against each other yesterday, and of course that's true. But how come there's hardly any criticism of how poor Brady played yesterday? If Manning and the Broncos did lose, don't you believe we would hear once again about how he chokes in the big game? Sort of unfair.
The Super Bowl is on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2. Just days later the next big global event takes place in Sochi, Russia. That would be the Winter Olympics, and Vladimir Putin has transformed into a human rights activist, using his unrivaled power to let out some of his political enemies, and now downplaying that anti-gay bill his nation passed last summer. Tennis great Billie Jean King isn't satisfied with Putin's remarks that the law really isn't that bad.
Pam Bondi is dominating the financial arms race in her bid for re-election for Attorney General against both of the Democrats running for their party's nomination. But what about what the candidates actually believe in? One of those Democrats, House Minority Leader Perry Thurston, said on Friday that when it comes to policy decisions, Bondi is out of the mainstream of the state.
