Our obsession with the pursuit of physical perfection has resulted in cosmetic procedures for nearly everything. Unfortunately this fixation on beauty has also given rise to disfiguring black-market procedures, like illegal ass injections.
Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on ass implants or Brazilian butt lifts, clients pay a few grand for injections that produce immediate results and require little recovery time. Unfortunately these injections are often time bombs that result in permanent disfigurement, failing health, and death a few months or even decades down the line. These injections can consist of a variety of synthetic products: unsterile mineral oil, silicone, fix-a-flat, motor oil, super glue, cement, and other products that can be purchased at hardware stores. Once these substances enter the body, they are often impossible to remove.
[jump]Vice.com released a short documentary on this growing trend, focusing on a transgender woman, "The Duchess," who was recently arrested in Florida under suspicion of illegally practicing medicine and on a manslaughter charge from a death believed to have resulted from an illegal ass injection.
