If you're in the mood for a stylish and adventurously artsy evening, the next installment of the event series Ringling Underground is happening tonight in the opulent courtyard of the Ringling Museum of Art.
The Sarasota Film Festival will be on hand to show a series of short films by New York-based director Gina Telaroli. The films will air on a 40-foot wide inflatable screen as a part of the Sarasota Film Festival’s “Moonlight Movie” series. Bands performing at the event include Teach Me Equals, a Sarasota-based rock band that mixes cello and violin into their music, Luxury Mane, St. Pete's own “pysch pop” group and headliner Starlight Girls, who bring another dose of psychedelic rock. Kelli Jaco, of Soul Yoga Sanctuary, will lead a 45-minute yoga session to the tune of the music starting at 8 p.m. The Kotler Glass Collection and the Optical Illusions exhibition will be open for viewing. Food from Treviso and a cash bar will be for sale. Admission is $10. Museum members and college students with ID are admitted for free.
UT’s Sixth Annual Composer Festival features headliner, Grammy winner Libby Larsen (pictured), one of America’s most performed composers. Events are free and include a flute and organ duet concert on Wed., March 5, plus a cello and bass duet, a bassoon and piano piece and a piece for voice. Performers include the UT Chamber Singers, Ryan Hebert, organ; Barbara Prescott, flute; Dee Moses, bass; Lowell Adams, cello; Maurizio Venturini, bassoon; Grigorios Zamparas, piano; and Hein Jung, voice. On Thurs., March 6, 7:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church across the street from UT, hosts a student concert featuring the UT Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and Camerata Singers. Dance and enjoy live music straight from Havana during USF Contemporary Art Museum's Global Dance Party, the closing celebration for at CAM@25: Social Engagement. Though it's the final Art Thursday multi-genre event the museum held in celebration of this exhibition, the evening event series has been a success, so we should have more fun and thought-provoking after-hours programming to look forward to during future exhibitions. Tonight's event will feature Cuban acoustic group Sol y Son and dance instruction will be available for those who attend. Free refreshments will also be provided. Free.
