The makers of Out to Kill, a gay whodunnit filmed in Tampa last fall, will hold an exclusive pre-premiere screening at the freeFall Theatre on Wed., March 12.Los Angeles-based filmmaker Rob Williams, whose work has previously been featured in the Tampa International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, wrote the script for Out to Kill, his seventh feature film, with Tampa in mind.
“We wanted to make Tampa another character in the movie,” said Rodney Johnson, the film’s executive producer and Williams’ real-life partner. “We had this idea of a gay murder mystery written specifically for Tampa Bay.”
The film’s ensemble cast includes Scott Sell (The Last Straight Man), Mark Strano (Housebroken), Rob Moretti (Truth) and singer-songwriter Tom Goss (“Bears”), making his film debut. It also features many local actors and crew members.
Out To Kill’s plot centers on a group of gay men living in a Tampa loft complex. When up-and-coming singer Justin Jaymes (played by Goss) is found dead in the building’s pool, his neighbors enlist the help of resident private eye Jim Noble (played by Sell) to track down the killer. With its surprise ending and tropical location, the film offers a sexy, gay twist to the traditional murder mystery.
The screening, sponsored by the TIGLFF, begins at 7:30 p.m. freefall Theatre is located at 6099 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 ($8 with valid student ID), and can also be purchased online. Seating is limited. A reception will follow at Georgie’s Alibi.
