Travelogues is in a New York state of mind during the Fri., July 12, installment of their monthly spoken word night at Café Hey. Like my experiences of New York, from meeting Nas to realizing my then boyfriend had found a new love during a surprise visit, the storytellers each have their own unique experiences to share, good and bad.

Ellen Brown, co-owner of The Old Tampa Book Company, will describe her life living in NYC and working on Wall Street in 1956. Spoiler alert: She paid $240 in rent!

Meredith Watt will share living in Brooklyn for three years and watching the gentrification in her neighborhood.

Travelogues founder Gina Moccio will discuss her trials and tribulations of her attempted move to the Big Apple.

A slide show of local photographers’ pictures will be shown throughout the night, including CL contributors Nicole Kibert and Shanna Gillette. Audience members are also encouraged to share their New York stories during the scheduled speakers. Like if anyone ever harassed Horatio Sanz at a New York club drunkenly insisting they need to be hired on SNL. Yeah, that happened to me there, too.

Café Hey, 1540 N. Franklin St., Tampa, from 7 to 9 p.m., Fri. July 12. Suggested donation: $3. vesselcollective.com.
