
East Lake Community Library’s Author Showcase features author Lynn Combes Tuesday, July 15, 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. She’ll discuss and sign copies of her book, A Garden Full of Butterflies. Combes’ first daughter died at the age of 5, which inspired her to write the novel to help others deal with their grief. A Garden Full of Butterflies focuses on the relationship between 10-year-old Marissa, who mother has died, and her neighbor Mrs. Chancey, who has also lost loved ones and takes the girl under wing. The two bond while tending to a flower garden that attracts butterflies.
Wordier Than Thou hosts its next storytelling and prose open mic Tuesday, July 15 at the Studio@620, 620 First Ave. S., St. Pete. Come share your finest prose, or if you’re just in the mood for listening, catch some tales from our area’s talented wordsmiths. The featured reader is Tampa Bay Times writer Jeff Klinkenberg. Author Andrea Brunais stops by Inkwood Books Tuesday, July 15, 7 p.m., with her new book, Mercedes Wore Black. Brunais uses Florida politics and the 2014 election as a backdrop for this fast-paced murder mystery.
Catch Tim Dorsey, the former Tampa Tribune journalist turned novelist, at the Ruskin Library Wednesday, July 16, 2 p.m. He’ll discuss his 15 zany, Florida-based mystery novels, answer questions and sign copies of his books.
