Last week, event organizers announced their plans to host a weeklong celebration of plant-based diets from Monday, Nov. 3, to Sunday, Nov. 9. They're calling it Tampa Bay Veg Week.

Tampa's annual Veg Fest, which showcases meat-free food booths, guest speakers, live music and more throughout the day, is set for Nov. 8, and last year, more than 4,000 people attended.

In a press release, Veg Week's co-event producer Timothy Bennett acknowledged the growing vegan and vegetarian community around the region.

"It's definitely time for a Veg Week," Bennett said.

The inaugural veg-friendly week is still being developed, and its organizers are looking for restaurants, breweries and other local bizes that want to get involved.

A kickoff party at the Whole Foods in Carrollwood, cooking classes, daily happy hours, lectures, animal sanctuary field trips, breakfast socials, farmers market gatherings and a vegan chili cook-off will be among Veg Week's happenings.
