We gave Booker & Norton Best New Band honors in 2013 for their soulful driving rock and greasy punk-garage blues. So far, Benjamin Booker and Max Norton have only done us proud. The twosome relocated to New Orleans late last year, dropped “Norton” from the name (but not the lineup), put Benjamin Booker in the solo spotlight, and recorded an album with producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes). Not long after returning to play the third annual Gasparilla Music Festival, Booker announced a deal with ATO Records (which released his eponymous debut on August 19), played the Late Show with David Letterman, premiered songs on Noisey and NPR’s World Cafe, toured Europe, and opened several dates for Jack White. benjaminbookermusic.com
