Author Thom Barrett will sign copies of his novel
Everywhere an Angel at the Clearwater Main Library Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1 to 3 p.m.

Share your poetry, stories and songs at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church’s bi-monthly poetry and open mic night, Wednesday, Oct. 8. The evening kicks off with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. So get there early to sign in and snack; readings and performances begin promptly at 7 p.m.

Safety Harbor Writers & Poets holds its monthly open mic Wednesday, Oct. 8, 7 p.m., at Tapping the Vine. All performers, including poetry, prose, comedy and storytellers, are welcome.

The Tampa Writers Alliance next meets on Wed., Oct. 8, 7 p.m., at the Barnes & Noble in Carrollwood. Visitors are welcome, but only members’ works will be discussed, about five pieces per session. Works critiqued are submitted two weeks in advance. If you’re interested in attending, contact the group for copies of the submitted pieces if possible, though it’s not required to attend.

The Tampa International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival celebrates Literary Ladies Susan Sontag and Alice Walker Thursday, Oct. 9, 6:10 to 10 p.m., at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. The evening will include two documentaries, Regarding Susan Sontag and Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth. Following the film screenings, head to The Canopy at the Birchwood for a rooftop after party. Bring your ticket to receive half-off your first cocktail. Tickets can be purchased here.

Tampa’s Inkwood Books will host a yoga night Thursday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m., with sp ecial guest Melissa Carroll, writer, yoga instructor, and editor of the new book Going Om: Real-Life Stories on and off the Yoga Mat (pictured, right). The book includes candid, witty and compelling experiences of yoga from renowned memoirists, including Cheryl Strayed (author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Wild), Claire Dederer (author of national bestseller Poser: My Life in 23 Yoga Poses), Dinty W. Moore (author of The Accidental Buddhist) and Neal Pollack (author of Stretch: The Making of a Yoga Dude).

Local author and publisher, Ginger Marks partners with Clearwater’s PNC Bank Thursday, Oct. 9, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., to provide insight and advice for prospective, new, and experienced business owners. Marks will be available to chat and sign copies of her award-winning book, Complete Library of Entrepreneurial Wisdom, and PNC Financial experts will be on hand to field questions and educate attendees on business financial matters.

Author Ann O’Farrell will discuss Ireland and her novels at the Oldsmar Library Thursday, Oct. 9, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Florida Writers Association St. Petersburg groupholds its monthly meeting at the St. Pete Main Library, Thursday, Oct. 9, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Certified Jungian Depth-psychotherapist Velva Lee Heraty will sign copies of her new bookThe Dream Belongs to the Dreamer Thursday, Oct. 9, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at St. Pete’s MFA. The book offers readers a step-by-step guide to understanding one’s dreams and is written for a mainstream audience. Refreshments will be provided.

East Lake Community Library presents Thrilling Tales, story time for adults, Friday, Oct. 10, 1:30 p.m.

Take a Florida road trip with Tampa’s own Tim Dorsey. The author of 19 humorous crime novels will head to the Dunedin Fine Arts Center Friday, Oct. 10, 6:30 p.m. Join him on a journey from Tallahassee to Key West in search of the old, real Florida. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members; they can be purchased here.

Lucha Libro returns to Cafe Hey Friday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m., for a night of lethal word play!
