"I think over the course of five albums, Palantine started to head into heavier territory."

That's what Vinnie Cosentino told CL when we asked whether his new project featured more down-tuned guitars. "In some ways Into The Cellar is a continuation of that," he added, "but this is really a whole new band and ultimately much heaver."

We beg to differ. The duo — which includes former Palantine, Therapeutic Chokehold and Pink Lincolns drummer Jeff Fox — play music that belongs in the belly of a beast whose home is the molten center of the earth. It finds Cosentino, 34, splitting a baritone guitar between a bass cab and guitar stack and Fox using a kit that includes a 26-inch kick drum. There are even samples of horror movies mixed into the live set, giving everything an extra demonic and demented, metal feel.

Today the band released their self-titled debut, which can be streamed below. A free download is available via Bandcamp until midnight. They celebrate the LP on October 18 with a release show at New World Brewery (1313 E. 8th Ave., Ybor City). Meatwound, 100 Car Pileup, and DJ Damien Pentagram play support for the Halloween-themed show. Doors are at 9 p.m. and cover is, naturally, $6.66. More information is available here.
