Doe-eyed spitfire and comedic chameleon Jan Hooks — whom The New Yorker called "one of the all-time great Saturday Night Live cast members — died Thursday at 57; cause of death unconfirmed.

Hooks co-starred on the NBC series with Nora Dunn, Jon Lovitz, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey from 1986 to 1991.

Her memorable recurring characters roles include Nancy Reagan, Tammy Faye Bakker, Ivana Trump, Kathie Lee Gifford and one of the Sweeney Sisters. During that time and afterward, she showed up in numerous film roles, such as her memorable turn as the perky Alamo tour guide Tina ("Can you say Ah-DOH-be?").

The Georgia native started out in the Groundlings and New Wit's End Players. TV writers Bonnie and Terry Turner befriended her and helped her land a gig on SNL as well as occasional spots on Third Rock from the Sun.
