The Huffington Post calls it a film we "can't afford not to see"— for one screening only tonight at 7:30 p.m., Tampa Theatre will screen the documentaryFed Up, which follows a group of children over a period of two years as they try to put into practice conventional diet and exercise guidelines. The film reveals the consequences wrought by the U.S. government setting guidelines that almost completely overlook dietary sugar as a culprit in increasing risks of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses, particularly in children.

TV personality/investigative reporter Katie Couric — who's gone public as a champion of health issues in the past during her husband's tragically fatal bout with colon cancer — has gone to bat for to save lives again, teaming up Laurie David (An Inconvenient Truth), Regina Scully (The Invisible War) and Stephanie Soechtig (Tapped). Together they uncover lapses in regulation, special interests and mass consumer culture's sweet and deadly pimping/enabling of sugar and junk food. Dr. Patrizia La Trecchia, an associate professor at the University of South Florida and expert in sustainable food systems, food security and food waste, will introduce the film and conduct a Q&A afterward. $11; purchase tickets here.

If you're in the mood for something less sobering, head to the Straz's Jaeb Theater for campy drag entertainment with a dash of multi-level entrepreneurship and domestic bliss. Dixie’s Tupperware Party introduces us to Dixie Longate, a member of the illustrious “ No. 1 Tupperware Seller in the World” Club, brought to life by actor Kris Andersson. Ms. Dixie, who skips formalities and addresses her customers as "hookers," educates audiences on the many alternative uses she has discovered for her plastic products and even sells the products after the show. Thurs., Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Oct. 17, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 18, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 19, 2 p.m. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. Show is 7 p.m. at the Straz's Ferguson Hall. Tickets start at $35.
