David Williams: Somewhere Between Alpha and Omega is on view at a reception 6-10 p.m. at Workspace, voted Best New Gallery in CL's 2014 Best of the Bay. The solos show reveals Williams' refined technique and imaginative blends of imagery take his art a few levels above most trendy post-pop art you see in magazines. He says in his artist statement:
"The paintings I produce tell stories of men and women and how they view themselves and each other. They are images of sex and power, or the lack of sex and power, manipulation and frustration. I use multiple images as well as multiple painting styles in each work, layering image on top of image. Bringing forth disturbing messages from within our culture — and our hearts.” Celebrate with Williams at an after party at the neighboring Independent Bar and Cafe, Tampa.
While one great art show is opening in Seminole Heights, another is closing a few blocks away. The closing reception for the ingenious and intriguing Machine in the Ghost is tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kirk KeWang Gallery. Artist Michael Covello, whose works are in the show, invites you to stop in and help him "empty some bottles of wine" (and see some of his recent paintings, too). Read about the show here.
