Friends, artists and arts enthusiasts are invited to the Bud Mayhem Memorial at Tampa Theatre. The artist born Harry Archibald Mayhue Jr., aka Dr. Mayhem, died Oct. 22 from complications from a chronic illness. Because Halloween was his favorite holiday, guests are welcome to come in costume or even dress up as Bud. (Trust us. He would have loved that.) Arrive early for a gathering at 4:30 p.m.; memorial begins at 5:15 p.m. Tampa Theatre is 711 N. Franklin St., Tampa.

After the memorial, stick around for local author and storyteller Deborah Frethem to share Bay-area ghost stories and supernatural tales from her new book, Haunted Ybor City.  Following her talk, Frethem will sign copies of all three of her books, including Ghost Stories of St. Petersburg and Haunted Tampa: Spirits of the Bay. Proceeds from sales go to Tampa Theatre's ongoing restoration efforts.

Start your holiday weekend early — Halloween celebrations are amping up for some fiendish fun tonight in St. Pete.

Bluelucy Halloween Costume Dance Cocktail Party invites you to hang out with some of the scariest hipsters in St. Pete. The shindig promises "beats, black lights and booze." Costumes, of course, are encouraged. Thurs., Oct. 30, 7-11 p.m. 653 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Click here for event page.

While there, head, if you dare, to the Hellaween Haunted Art House. Bloom Art Center will host a haunted art show, just in time for Halloween. Visitors can view horror themed art pieces, explore the Haunted Warehouse filled with “intense scare installations” and listen to live entertainment. Some artists featured in this gallery are, Bruce Norris, STOIC, James Oleson and Van Der Luc. There will also be a costume contest with prizes, so be sure to dress up. $8 admission, 18 and older only. Oct. 30-31, 7 pm-12 am. The Oleson Gallery, 685 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. 352-346-8619. facebook.com/theolesongallery.
