It hasn't seen a blockbuster since The Dark Knight rose again, but the now empty Channelside Theaters will be filled with audiences again for the 2015 Gasparilla International Film Festival March 24-29.
The cinema house has been closed for more than two years, but GIFF will be reopening it on a temporary basis to offer what GIFF spokesperson Monica Varner says GIFF will revive it with "a unique and exciting 'Pop-Up Theater' experience" that will be in place throughout the duration of the festival.
"We are all excited about this opportunity — not only for the chance to bring a one of a kind experience to the community, but also for a long term partnership with Channelside and its new ownership," Ferdian Jap of Big City Events wrote in an email to CL.
“The goal is to activate the entire plaza with red carpet events, immersive experiences and celebrity gatherings,” GIFF spokesperson Monica Varner adds.
Channelside Bay Plaza, purchased by Strategic Property Partners, LLC (an entity controlled by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik) in August 2014, has plans for renovation as a mixed‐use urban center.
