WEDU-Ch. 3 and Tampa Theatre have joined forces to honor what may be the most significant of cultural milestones this month: the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington.

Join the two Tampa institutions in commemorating the historic event with a free community screening of The March, a film honoring the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech — a remembrance that will have special resonance during the tension-filled aftermath of the Trayvon Martin verdict. [jump]
The film, narrated by Denzel Washington, includes appearances by Harry Belafonte, Diahann Carroll, Roger Mudd, Peter Yarrow and Oprah Winfrey, along with historians, journalists, authors and ordinary citizens. Local community members who participated in the 1963 march will share memories in a Q&A after the film.

Tampa’s Distinguished Men of Brass — who've appeared on NBC’s America’s Got Talent — will give a special performance immediately before the film.

Advance registration is requested on Event Brite. Visit Tampa Theatre’s website for link. 7:30 p.m., Aug. 22, Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., Tampa. Free admission. tampatheatre.org
