Jobsite kid: A graduate of the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan (after two years at Berkeley Prep) and Davidson College in North Carolina, she grew up building sets and hanging out at an emerging Tampa theater company. “When I was a kid, Jobsite was just starting out. To watch it grow and grow with it and to now be in a production is very exciting to me.”
Which witch: Mularz is playing multiple roles in David Jenkins’ upcoming production of Macbeth, as one of the Powers: “Think Witch x 1000,” says Jenkins. The director is a big Maggie Mularz fan. “I just don’t know that I have enough good things to say about her. She’s extraordinarily good people, very well-rounded. She’s one to watch.”
Her first big role: Mularz gave a memorably affecting performance as Laura in Tampa Rep’s Glass Menagerie last season. Getting to work with the company’s artistic director, TheatreUSF’s David Frankel, “was such a gift,” she says. “He’s such a college professor it made the transition from doing college to local professional theater easier, because he came at it from a perspective I was familiar with. The foundation he gave me really made the play come to life.”
Those who can, teach: A Patel Conservatory student who graduated to intern and now teaches Pre-K and Kindergarten drama there, Mularz is studying for her masters in elementary education at USF.
So… elementary school teacher by day, local actor by night?“That is absolutely the plan.”
