Mitch Perry Report 8.29.13 - AP: U.S. case vs. Syria "full of caveats"

Presumably if and when the U.S. military attacks Syria they'll want backing from our closest ally, Great Britain. If that is the case, there won't be any bombing until next week, because reluctant British lawmakers now say they don't want to do act until U.N. inspectors complete their investigation into what happened in Syria that led to the deaths of hundreds of people because of a chemical weapons attack.

Meanwhile the Associated Press reports by the Office of the Director for National Intelligence outlining that evidence against Syria is "thick with caveats," hardly reassuring before we attack another Arab nation.

There is also this crucial paragraph in the story:

So while Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that links between the attack and the Assad government are "undeniable," U.S. intelligence officials are not so certain that the suspected chemical attack was carried out on Assad's orders, or even completely sure it was carried out by government forces, the officials said.

Moving on to the local scene - a lawsuit was filed yesterday against Hillsborough County's Public Transportation Commission for their $50 minimum charge for limousines.

And we posted a couple of ditties following up on Tuesday night's primary election in St. Petersburg. While the question now reverts to what is the plan for the Pier going forward, a big Lens critic, Lorraine Margeson, says she'll continue to work for Concerned Citizens of St. Petersburg while she fully engages her in her campaign for city council against Jim Kennedy.

Meanwhile the local architect working on the Lens, Lisa Wannemacher, was extremely disappointed by the results of Tuesday night's vote on the Lens, as she told CL.

And CL photographer Chip Weiner posts his second pictorial feature on the year-old anniversary with the RNC in Tampa. Today's post is headlined "Misfires, gaffes, and blunders."
