Just because summer is over doesn’t mean that you can’t still find fun things to do with your kids. Paper Play by Lydia Crook is a great book that you and your mini-me can enjoy together. Whether you have boys or girls everyone can have fun challenging themselves to create something original. Every single page has a use (roll it, fold it, snip it, and if you’re feeling a little extra creative color it) instructions will be written inside, nothing will go to waste.
Simply close your eyes and pick a random page, grab some glue, pens and scissors and you're good to go. So what are some of the things you can find inside? You can make a hat, bookmark, your own star constellations, and even origami animals.
[jump]My personal favorite was making mini-people paper chains. Everything was simply well-illustrated and prompts readers how to use each page of this book. The best thing of all was kids will be entertained and it’s easy clean up. This book is great for children 7 and up.
Another fun book filled with actives is Uncommon Cards by Jeanne Williamson. This book isn’t really for smaller children because it’s a lot more extensive within the things that you will need. However it is perfectly titled. This book is a how to guide on how to make the uncommon with the common. There are over 50 different card ideas within this book-each card created with love giving the cards a special feel and appearance. One of the most interesting things about this process is that the reader is using recycled objects such as; fabric, coffee cup sleeves, chocolate wrappers and even old zippers!
There is even a section that covers how to make envelopes.
In this day and age where almost everything is being conquered by technology, why not slow down and take the time to create a piece of art. Leave someone with a smile because you made something a little more personal. Uncommon Cards is a great value if you’re willing to put in the time.
