
A new book argues that Matthew Shepard, the Laramie, Wyoming college student who became an icon for the gay rights movement after he was murdered 15 years ago, wasn’t killed because he was homosexual. Therefore, he says, the murder shouldn't be labeled a hate crime.
In “The Book of Matt: Hidden Truths About the Murder of Matthew Shepard,” journalist Stephen Jimenez contends that Shepard was killed in a meth-induced frenzy and that his primary killer was likely gay or bisexual. Jimenez, who is gay, interviewed over 100 people for the book.
[jump]A UNAIDS official predicted that the HIV epidemic could be over in less than 20 years. Dr. Luis Loures, deputy executive director of the United Nations’ UNAIDS program, says that thanks to advances in HIV treatment and prevention, the epidemic could be eradicated by 2030.
During a game of “Would You Ever?” with Bethenny Frankel, former NSYNC’er Lance Bass said he knows “tons” of closeted gay celebrities and has lied to help them stay in the closet.
“[I]t’s up to them to decide if they want to come out or not. And I will support any decision they make,” he said.
But, he added, “We’re in 2013. I think it’s very uncool to be in the closet nowadays.”
