When in Brandon, do as the Brandons do and get yourself a scoop or two of Revolution Ice Cream Co., ice cream. Saturday evening, coming out of an Ikea-fueled-stupor, our car turned right onto State Road 60 instead of left. The big shopping center lights of Brandon were in sight momentarily and that meant delicious ice cream lay just minutes away.
You might remember Revolution Ice Cream Co., from this year's Food Issue, The Regulars . Hardcore rockabilly band, the Redliners, took us to their Brandon ice cream haunt, run by former 9-5er Bill Workman and his wife Leslee.
[jump]Ahead of Thanksgiving, Workman and his crew whipped up some seasonal flavors. No, there's no pumpkin spice latte, thank goodness. Instead, prepare for one of the most refreshing boozy ice cream flavors around. Taste buds, meet Pass the Turkey, a Wild Turkey bourbon-infused ice cream with apple cider, cranberries, sage and thyme. Yes, I.D. is required. No, one scoop won't get you drunk.
But rum raisin better beware, Pass the Turkey is fixing to replace you as the industry standard. It's so good that Workman says one person took home a half-gallon for the holidays at a whopping $46 (it's $3 per scoop). Tart, creamy, with bright pops of sage and thyme, this ice cream sums up the best part of everyone's favor feast. Get a taste before it's gone.
Scoops are available for a limited time at Revolution Ice Cream Co., 220 W. Brandon Blvd. #104, Brandon, 813-857-3250, revicecream.com.
