Nearly two years after closing, friends of the Globe Coffee Lounge reunited for a day of food, coffee drinks and dessert. The Local 662 on Central Avenue's 600 Block hosted the one-day-only "pop-up."
Former Globe owner/coffee maven JoEllen Schilke whipped up sheets of Supa-Fudgey brownies, orders of her infamous Sloppy JoEllen sandwiches, and plenty of chai lattes. There were, of course, plenty of pies.
[jump]A wall lined with Whipped Cream and Other Delights by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, painted globes and signage from the original store adorned the interior.
For Globe-lovers in attendance, it really didn't matter that the Globe's reincarnation wasn't at the original location. That's because the Globe, despite it's delicious coffee bevies and home-cooked edibles, was always (and will always be) about the people.
"I love you all so much," The Globe wrote on Facebook. "We could be a big Globe commune and I would be the cook, shaman and peacekeeper. And we would be the baddest assest commune ever."
It's hard to say whether anyone can ever fill the place Schilke's Globe created in the community. Perhaps it just means periodic pop-ups are in order.
