The award-winning Dunedin Fine Art Center’s annual Contain IT!/Trashy Treasures two-day event last weekend evolved into Contain IT! Eat IT, Brew IT + Trashy Treasures —in other words, the "It Weekend."
On Friday night, the Trashy Treasures Art Auction (inside DFAC) set up shop again with lines of people overflowing outside, and art installations made use of PODS storage-units that stood by food trucks, craft brew vendors and a stage featuring live music by The Nancy Ray-Guns (featuring Sean Delong). Curated by Christine Renc-Carter, Contain IT! included another installation by yearly favorite Shane Hoffman. He created his Mayflower truck-inspired installation with a student from his day job at Pyramid Inc., a Tampa arts-educational program that helps the mental and emotionally challenged find a new voice through art. The Spolek Collaborative (Nathan Beard, Corey O’Connor, Aaron Schallenberger, Cate Clark, Marketa O’Connor, Hallie Schallenberger) offered a detailed view of domesticity vs. identity, and several other PODs offered thought-provoking themes and the fruits of unique collaborations.
