Since I have been living under a rock for the past few years, I was late to discover ARTPool. I went there with my sister on a Sunday and was immediately charmed by its indie pastiche.
ARTPool is part art fair, part vintage clothing store (fancy and rock and roll), part comic book store (where I found a copy of the adapted comic for “Hobo With a Shotgun”, which then got me a tweet it’s director Jason Eisener), part used record store (they have cassettes too!), part art gallery, part coffee house and all chic. I am not a hip person, but I did actually feel a little hip from simply being there.
As it turns out, ARTpool has been in St. Pete for a hot minute and on April 12th will be celebrating its 6th birthday party. It’s actually quite a big party, really, and thusly has a name: Anything Goes.
Anything Goes, naturally, going to be eclectic, and is, ‘a huge local art show, multiple fashion shows, body art living canvas (I have seen the pictures-they are sexy), live music by surf rock band The Vultures, Dance performance by Liquid Beat, Flash Mob fun, Burlesque by Tokyo Belle Burlesque (also sexy), performance by Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers (this I have to see), Video Art by David Meek and a Laser light installation art tent experience by Terry Pivinsky (hallucinogens not included).
The event runs from 8 p.m.-midnight. For more information and how to purchase tickets, visit the Facebook event page or go to artpoolrules.com. You can get VIP tickets for $30 (which guarantees a reserved seat for the festivities that unroll) or general admission for $15. It is also noteworthy to mention that proceeds from tickets sales go to the local artists featured (art is easier to create when one is eating food).
So hit up Anything Goes on April 12th at Artpool; no other place has art, burlesque and stand-up librarians; of this I am sure.
