We couldn't pick just one. Diverse, culturally in touch galleries in Tampa and St. Pete offer us a fascinating triptych of art show pit-stops on Saturday night.
Bluelucy goes cinematic on us for its next pop-contemporary art show, saluting the upcoming Sunscreen Film Festival, which has events throughout the year and presents its main event May 1-4 in St. Petersburg. 100 Artists X 100 Films, curated by Chad Mize, gives us a solid Benjamin of local artists and works, each working on the same size canvas (16-by-16-inch wood panel), and chosen from a list of more than 350 films (1920-2013) provided by Sunscreen and BlueLucy. Artists include Adam Graham, Brandon Bailey, Coralette Damme and 96 others. Pop into Tempus Projects for In the Form of a Painting, an exhibition that challenges the notion of the medium. An opening reception will be held Sat., April 19, at 7-10 p.m., and the exhibition will run through May 17. While your there, see new works by resident collective QUAID, too. At Workspace, local artist Angus Shafer will presents Slow Your Roll, his first solo exhibition featuring works inspired by his own inner dialogue and anxieties of everyday life. Shafer, a graphic designer by trade, uses several different techniques to create art by hand that could easily made on a computer. Robert Frost said that nothing gold can stay, but memories of a unique experience can last a good while. This couldn't be truer for Eva Avenue, winner of an Awesome St. Pete Grant. She's presenting The Gold Room at downtown St. Pete's Oleson Gallery, one of a series of room installations, plus an art party and photo-op all wrapped up into one cultural experience-as-artwork. The interactive piece reflects our social media-conscious world and idealization of settings. So, visitors are encouraged to bring a camera, phone or other picture-taking device to create memories and an atmosphere of shiny allure.
